While awaiting the arrival of Simón Bolívar's army, groups of patriots gathered clandestinely in the Junín region, ready to confront the troops loyal to the Spanish crown. These warriors would join the fight, reinforcing the regular armies. They fought successfully in the battles of Junín and Ayacucho.
